A summary of the experiential learning exchange program between UNCG and Donglifengmei
The development of special education is inseparable from the introduction and study of the advanced ideas and methods. In recent years, our school has collaborated with many special education experts from the United States, Britain and Hong Kong to promote professional development. On May 9, 11 graduates and 2 professors from the University of North Carolina Greensboro came to Donglifengmei special school for the Fulbright curriculum development project. The project which takes assisted communication technology for students with special needs as the theme is planned by our school, District of the International Education Exchange Center and the UNCG, aiming to promote the cross-cultural study of Sino American education through co-teaching practice, workshops and seminars.
In nearly three weeks, 11 graduates are divided into two groups and supervised by two professors for experiential learning in 6 classes. According to the cooperation agreement on both sides of the project, 11 graduates participate in the school's educational practice through different ways such as classroom observation, co-teaching, workshop and seminars and they can truly feel the development of special education in China. Our class teacher also design many rich and colorful theme activities for the arrival of the American guests and implement with our school's special courses— happy day activities and LOHAS course. They also strive to achieve barrier free communication of the teachers and students through the use of various auxiliary tool of communication, enable students feel happy to get along with the foreigners.
In addition, the two speech language pathology professor Kristine and Perry also hold three assisted communication technology-AAC seminars, which include lectures about the theoretical background knowledge and case studies. The teachers who have attended the workshops have gained so much and decide to try to use the skills in their teaching practice. |
